Die Maus

Heroes have many faces. But only one is this vibrant orange.

#dc5f1e is the HEX value for 'Maus-Orange', a colour we know by heart. We have managed the digital home of Die Maus since 2014. Over these years, we have developed and expanded a comprehensive website and app, ensuring the brand is represented digitally in the best possible way. Today, the website and app are among Germany's most recognised and successful digital offerings for children.

App implementation

Discover the world with Die Maus: the MausApp

With millions of installations on iOS and Android devices, this multi-award-winning app is now an integral part of the media landscape for an entire generation of children. The app itself is like a large MausSpot: fans of all ages can control Die Maus and explore the Maus world on land, underground, and underwater. The app stands out for its extensive content, visual quality, age-appropriate operation, and many playful details.

Extensive media library

To see, to hear, to discover.

The app's core is its media library, featuring the latest episode and hundreds of 'Lach- und Sachgeschichten' (laughter and factual stories). Children's favourites like Käpt'n Blaubär, the little mole, and Trudes Tier are easily found through intuitive navigation, filtering options, or full-text search.

In addition to videos, the app offers audio content, including the current episode for listening, audio stories, and a bedtime podcast. Innovative formats such as 360° videos, a video mixer, and a time machine with clips from 50 years of Die Maus history provide engaging variety.

Game development

Playful space for young and young-at-heart users – and for old and new fans.

Almost half of the app's usage time is spent exploring and playing in the Die Maus world, rather than consuming video content. This has made the app a valuable part of the 'Die Maus' experience and identification space, serving as the primary contact point for many users entering the Die Maus world.

Over the years, we have developed and implemented numerous games for the Die Maus app. These are always tailored to the target audience, creative, available in single or multiplayer modes, and consistently meet the high standards of Die Maus.

Interaction and experience design (UI/UX)

Reliable usability with personality

Although Die Maus doesn't speak, she is always understood. Her ability to communicate without words allows her to appeal to all ages: everyone can understand Die Maus. This was, and remains, the guiding principle for the app's navigation and operating concept: a reliable, intuitive user interface that primarily – but not exclusively – focuses on young users, and rewards explorative touch areas with a positive action.

The site was implemented within WDR's proprietary editorial system. A wide range of custom modules enables the editorial team to create extensive thematic features with flexible content formats, in addition to standard media content.
